The Four Princes of Serendip: A Michael Kew Film From Mollusk Surf

“Hail, Water,
ye bring health and bliss:
ye help us to energy.
That we may look on in great delight!”
-the Sama Veda

The journey to the east has been a rite of passage for many westerners going back as far as 500 BC. Although most of the initial voyages to the regions of Asia were in search of spices and other items of trade, the last century has proven that expeditions to the east are more of an internal quest or spiritual affair. Many men and woman have been drawn by an ineffable longing, the silent call of the eternal question, as they set forth to seek the mysterious secrets beheld by the glorious east and namely India.

Most recently, filmmaker Michael Kew and a band of four surfers, namely Jared Mell, Simon Murdoch, Kyle Albers, and CJ Soloman undertook their own voyage to the east. They were not on a search for exotic spices, wondrous artifacts, or to partake in a spiritual pilgrimage; they were on a mission to find waves and rolling walls of salt water they did find.

Below is a motion picture documentation of their trip as captured by Michael Kew and presented by Mollusk Surf Shop.
