Surfing Scandinavia: Optical Confection from Norwegian Lensman Sondre Forsell
“It is the great north wind that made the Vikings” -Scandinavian Proverb
Norway’s surf is best in the winter season, with cold swells building from strong storms churning up the North Atlantic. Although surfing is relatively new to the Norwegian coastline, the number of surfers in the lineup grows each year, with numerous local skilled surfers tearing apart the Norse waves.
Hailing from the west coast of Norway, Sondre Forsell is an up and coming Scandinavian filmmaker and photographer. Sondre began shooting video and taking photographs initially as a teenage hobby, with his focus quickly gravitating toward capturing the wave-riding action taking place on the surrounding shores. While steadily building a name for himself in his field, he works closely with Denmark-based surf enthusiasts OH DAWN. While Sondre still works a day job, he is currently turning his hobby into a promising and passionate career path.
With interest in off-the-beaten-path surfing frontiers growing and cold water surfing getting more and more coverage each year, Sondre has found himself situated quite nicely to fulfill his dream.
