“LIFE is a mosaic of pleasure and pain – grief is an interval between two moments of joy. Peace is the interlude between two wars. You have no rose without a thorn; the diligent picker will avoid the pricks and gather the flower. There is no bee without the sting; cleverness consists in gathering the honey nevertheless.” -Sri Sathya Sai Baba

This is the trailer to “Gathering”, a short film from independent filmmaker Nathan Oldfield commissioned by Tracks Magazine. Oldfield is the creator of the award winning left of centre surf films “Lines From a Poem”, “Seaworthy”, and “The Heart & The Sea”.

The film features the enigmatic and free-thinking Dave Rastovich at home in the sacred playgrounds of the Far North Coast of New South Wales. “Gathering” is a candid look into the community that Rasta is a part of, as well as a document of his happy adventures on a range of surfcraft. Ultimately, “Gathering” celebrates how diversity in ecosystems, relationships and surfing communities contributes to the preciousness of life.

The film features Dave Rastovich, Lauren L. Hill, Chris Del Moro, Creed McTaggart and others.

The song in this trailer is called “It’s A Mess” by The Deadly Syndrome from their album “All In Time”.
